What Is the Subclass 189 Visa?
The Subclass 189 visa is a points-tested permanent visa for skilled workers who possess qualifications and experience in occupations listed on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).
There are two streams under this visa:
Points-Tested Stream – for overseas skilled workers with in-demand occupations.
New Zealand Stream – for eligible New Zealand citizens living in Australia.
Eligibility Criteria (Points-Tested Stream)
To be eligible for the 189 visa, you must:
Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect and receive an invitation
Be under 45 years of age at the time of invitation
Have an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
Have a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation
Score at least 65 points on the points test (age, English, qualifications, work experience, etc.)
Meet English language requirements (IELTS, PTE, etc.)
Meet health and character requirements
