186 Employer Nomination Scheme Visa: Age Eligibility
ℹ️ Standard Age Requirement
To apply for the 186 visa, you usually need to be under 45 years of age at the time of application.
🎉 Good News: There Are Exemptions!
You may still be eligible if you fall under one of these four important exemptions.
Exemption 1: Academic Nomination
You’re nominated as an academic by an Australian university. This includes lecturers and faculty heads at Academic Level A to E.
Exemption 2: Scientist, Researcher, or Technical Specialist
You’re a scientist, researcher, or technical specialist at ANZSCO skill level 1 or 2, nominated by an Australian university or government scientific agency.
Exemption 3: Medical Practitioner
You’re a medical practitioner, and you’ve worked in a designated regional area of Australia for at least 2 years on a subclass 457 or 482 visa in the last 3 years. Your nominated job must also be in a regional area.
Exemption 4: High Income Threshold
You’ve held a 457 or 482 visa, worked in eligible sponsored employment for at least 2 of the last 3 years, and earned at least $175,000 per year – the current Fair Work High Income Threshold.
✨ Still Over 45? Don’t Give Up!
So even if you’re over 45, you might still be eligible for the 186 visa – if you meet one of these exemptions.
